Ignore yourself
Stop counting your own visits without touching the site's code.
Sift reads one opt-out flag from localStorage, per browser and per origin. Set
it once and your visits stop appearing in the dashboard.
This is the only localStorage value the tracker ever reads, and it is never set
by Sift — only by you.
Turn it on
Open your site in the browser you use, then run this in the developer console:
localStorage.setItem("sift_ignore", "true");Reload the page. Nothing is sent from that browser for that origin again.
Turn it off
localStorage.removeItem("sift_ignore");Where it applies
localStorage is scoped to an origin — scheme, host, and port. That means:
https://example.comandhttps://www.example.comare separate origins. Set the flag on each.- Your phone and your laptop each need their own flag.
- Incognito windows start clean.
- Clearing site data removes the flag.
Why not a cookie or a dashboard toggle
A cookie would be sent to the server and would count as tracking infrastructure. Sift has no cookies, so the opt-out lives entirely in your browser.
A dashboard toggle cannot work either: Sift has no idea which browser is yours, because visitors are daily hashes, not accounts.
The alternative: exclude by path
If you only want to skip admin pages, exclude paths instead. That applies to everyone, not just you.
Verifying it works
With the flag set, reload a page and watch the network panel. There should be no
POST to /api/event. The script still loads; it just returns early.
